Art is for everyone

Static Menagerie aims to make every member site usable by as many people as possible and works toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The work is intentionally strange; using it should not require overcoming avoidable barriers.

How we test

Every registered route is exercised in Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit at desktop, tablet, and mobile sizes. The release suite checks keyboard focus, reduced-motion preferences, horizontal overflow, browser errors, and automated WCAG A and AA rules. We also review full-page renders because automation cannot judge whether a visual joke remains understandable or whether a layout simply feels broken.

The sites rely on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SVG, and raster images. Core content and navigation are intended to remain understandable when animation is reduced.

Known limitations

Some archival workplace memes contain words embedded in historical images. Their alternative text identifies the image, but may not reproduce every word or visual relationship in the original. Contact us if you need the content of an image in another form.

Automated checks and self-evaluation do not prove complete conformance, and the collection has not yet been exhaustively tested with every assistive technology. We would rather hear about a real barrier than pretend a passing test found everything.

If something prevents you from using a site, email contact@staticmenagerie.org with the page, what you were trying to do, and any browser or assistive technology details you are comfortable sharing. We will acknowledge accessibility reports within five business days and work toward a useful response or alternative.

This statement was published on 24 August 2026 and is based on self-evaluation. It will be reviewed alongside the collection’s release standards at least once each year.
